Featured below is a renovation work done on a lovely 30 year old villa located in Calicut, Kerala. Luckily, a day before news of the second wave of 'you know what' along with it's ghastly variants landed, I had wrapped up the photoshoot of this project. Scroll down to see the 3D views of the design, photographs of the completed site and more details.

The wood, metal, glass and cement finish wall pallette that you see in the first set of photos is the front verandah of the house, which used to be open in the front and side. I have made a front door and built an enclosure on the side adjacent to the car park. Sleek metal frames for windows and fixed glass, I believe is lighter to the eye than going for wooden framed windows all over, especially being a garden window. The front door with the fixed glass grid work affords lots of visibility and a feeling of spaciousness. All in all, the verandah enclosure is designed to give the user privacy with plenty of pleasant views to the garden outside.

The stone cladded parapet is the other design done on the side verandah. This verandah used to be a waiting area for patients. (the owner is a doctor). We have removed an old railing to put up the parapet. What excited me about this design is the concept of a hand rest, sitting on 3 granite verticals interlocked with the seating. It is a self solving railing pattern.

All in all, the undertaking worked out neatly, and I am grateful and excited to be able to make my client's universe a better place in my small ways.
