The featured project is the interior works completed for a Piano Academy in Bangalore. The task was to convert an old Bangalore house to a piano learning studio where students and teachers feel inspired and welcome to spend time in.

The Client and I had multiple discussions regarding his tastes and my inputs around the same. Eventually what unraveled was a contemporary space which is modern, yet, subtly reminiscent of the yesteryear which is what piano music typically evokes. While designing this and going about the installation works, I could not help but associate piano music with imagery of forests, birds and small animals.

The composition that came about is a balanced mix of light and rich wood textures with contemporary grays, track lights, metal frames and soft carpeting along with a sprinkling of plants, and if you will, birds and animals via curios. Besides, a lot of thought was given to seating design and user comfort. The entrance hall has a low height cushion wall where students can do their reading or waiting, apart from the sofa set. Also, a big concern for the piano enthusiast is lighting, and the design takes this into consideration by accommodating various combinations of wall lights and adjustable spot lights to use at will. On the whole, the idea was to keep the picture neat and reflecting the quietude of piano music.

Below are some photos of the space....
